John Benedict Tracy, 81, of Sioux City died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 5:30 to 8 p.m., a rosary at 6 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

John was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Sioux City, the son of James and Margaret (Ryan) Tracy. He was raised on the family farm near Westfield, Iowa. He came to Sioux City and worked for Farmers Lumber and Supply for about 11 years.

He married Ann V. Clancy on June 23, 1956, in Olivia, Minn. He worked for Moorman Manufacturing, selling feed to farmers from 1967 to 1985. He also worked for the State of Iowa, measuring local precipitation for 15 years.

He was a long-time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He enjoyed his granddaughters and gardening, especially raising tomatoes. He was an avid reader and spent a lot of his free time in the library.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Ann; a daughter and her husband, Cathy and Rob Seiler of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Jessica and Anna Claire Seiler of Sioux City; and a brother and his wife, Ed and JoAnn Tracy of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a toddler brother, Bernard; and two sisters, Marcella and Veronica Tracy.
