KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Stanley Clifford Thompson, 82, of Kingsley died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kingsley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Earnest and Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Mr. Thompson was born Jan. 6, 1919, on the family farm in Union Township, rural Plymouth County, Iowa. The son of Elmer R. and Alice C. (Peron) Thompson. He grew up on the farm and graduated from Union Consolidated High School in 1936.

He married Iola Sampson on March 5, 1941, in Sioux City. They farmed in Union Township until 1983, when they retired and moved to Kingsley.

He was a former member of Union Township Presbyterian Church and a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church. He was a member of Kingsley Lions Club, served on the Union Consolidated School board for 10 years and served as a Union Township trustee for 30 years. He was a board member of Plymouth Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. for 24 years and was a Union Viking 4-H leader for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Iola; two sons and their wives, Tommy and Mary of Le Mars, Iowa, and Barry and Janice of Kingsley; a daughter and her husband, Susan Thompson-Smid and Steve Smid of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Dallas and Nick Thompson, Chad Thompson and his wife, Jessica and Jennifer Thompson and Ryan and Nathan VanderMolen; a brother, Russell Thompson of Medford, Ore.; a brother-in-law, Marvin Fischer of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
