Larry L. Thompson, 57, of Sioux City died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Larkin Northside Funeral Home with Hospice Chaplain Glen Houts officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by the 185th Air National Guard. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 30, 1943, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of George A. and Freda M. (Parker) Thompson. He lived in Hinton, Sioux City and Rodney, Iowa. He graduated from Bronson (Iowa) High School in 1962.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1962 and served in Germany. He was discharged in 1966. He married Lynn Maack on July 6, 1966, in South Sioux City. He was a member of the 185th Fighter Squadron of the Iowa Air National Guard. He worked for the Guard from 1970 until he retired in 1985 due to poor health. He was a radar technician. While in the Guard he served in Panama twice.
He was raised in the Methodist faith. He was a past member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Sioux City, where he served as its governor for several terms. He was a member of the American Legion of Sergeant Bluff. He enjoyed camping.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rick and his wife, Samantha of North Sioux City, and Dean of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Joe Bohelski of Omaha, and Laura and Dennis Payne of Quimby, Iowa; five grandchildren, Shondra, Drew, D.J., Devon and Zoe; and a brother and his wife, Duane and Gloria of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Russell; and a sister, Virginia Jones.
Pallbearers will be Tony and Steve Thompson, Tim Lower, Glen Montereuil, Ken Westcott and Wade Thompson.
