AKRON, Iowa -- Rudolph M. "Rudy" Thomas Sr., 72, of Akron, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Indian Mission in Sioux City, with the Rev. F. David Titus officiating. Burial will be in Holy Faith Cemetery in Lindy, Neb. Visitation started at 4 p.m. Friday, at the church, and will continue until service time Monday.

Mr. Thomas was born Feb. 18, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of Raymond S. and Flora M. (Tuttle) Thomas Sr. He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked at Strange Brothers Hides Company for several years and at other Sioux City businesses throughout the years. He was most recently employed with Bartlett Grain Elevator.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Mae (LaPointe) Thomas; four sons, Carl Thomas and his wife, Pansy of Santee, Neb., Rodney Thomas of Santee, Harlan Thomas of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Wyatt Thomas and his wife, Alissa of Santee; a daughter, Winona Enyard of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Raymond Thomas and his wife, Dorothy of Sioux City, and Leonard Thomas of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Merle and Rudolph Thomas Jr.; a daughter, Gloria Fuller; a granddaughter, Regina Denny; and six brothers.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Thomas, Terry Thomas, Ronald Thomas, Joseph Provost, Larry Denny and Stanley Torrez.

Honorary pallbearers include all of his friends and family.
