Laverne D. Phelps Tetzlaff, 84, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at her residence with her family at her side. She suffered from cancer for two years.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Central Assembly of God, with the Revs. Craig Mellendorf and Boyd Hoferman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Laverne Dorothy Tetzlaff was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Sidney, Mont., the daughter of William J. Clark and Clara (Huseby) Clark. Her stepmother was Vivian Clark Brown. As a young child she moved with her parents to Sioux City. Her father owned and operated several restaurants in the Sioux City area. She worked for a time with her father in the restaurant business. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1935.
She married Marvin Joseph Phelps on June 20, 1936, in Le Mars, Iowa. He passed away on Nov. 23, 1975. She married Floyd "Pete" Tetzlaff on July 19, 1974, in Lake Tahoe, Nev. They farmed for many years in Idaho. They retired to Sioux City. Mr. Tetzlaff passed away on Feb. 5, 1995.
Mr. and Mrs. Tetzlaff were both active members of Central Assembly of God Church. Laverne liked her home and spent many hours in her garden. She loved flowers and raised beautiful flowers every year. Her other hobbies were camping, boating and fishing.
Survivors include four of her five children, Norma Jean and her husband, John Dailey of Dakota City, Carol Ann and her husband, Jerold Gingold of Panama, Judy and her husband, Hank De La Rosa of Brentwood, Calif., and Steven Michael and his wife, Sandra Phelps of Sioux City; two brothers, Kenneth and his wife, Joyce Clark of Sioux City, and Roland Clark of Arkansas; three sisters, Shirley and her husband, Gene Gonzales of Arkansas, Marilyn Wilson of Branson, Mo., and Joanne Dodd of South Dakota; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother; her son, Marvin Charles "Chuck" Phelps in 1975; two brothers, Donald Clark on Oct. 9, 1922, and Wilbur Clark on July 28, 1991; a grandson, Shawn O'Dea on April 28, 1985; and a granddaughter, Sheryl Mitchell on Dec. 8, 1987.
Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, John Dailey, Chase and Chance Baumann, Cody, Colt and Cort Moninger. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Johnette Moninger, Tia Baumann, Tonya Wilde, Kelly Treinen and Kristy Hill.
A memorial has been established in her name with Hospice of Siouxland.
