LESLIE T. BATES

Leslie T. Bates, 75, of Hinton, formerly of Sioux City, died Saturday (Dec. 3, 1977) at a Sioux City nursing home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Bates was born Feb. 16, 1902, in Geneva. He married Gertrude M. Macklem Oct. 24, 1928, in Vermillion, S.D. He lived in Sioux City for 34 years, working at Sioux Tools until his retirement in 1968. Mr. Bates moved to Hinton three years ago.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Lowell of Hinton and Kenneth of Wayne, Neb.; two daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Opel) Harrison of Sioux City and Mrs. Gordon (Doris) Arndt of Hinton; two brothers, Loran of Sioux City and Roland of Iowa Falls; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hinton United Methodist church.

Rev. Leland Webb officiated. Burial was at Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside chapel.

Pallbearers, all grandsons, were Larry Bates, Mike Arndt, Darrell and Kent Harrison, Tim Lang and Terry Riedger.
