Janice Schuetz, 61, of Alton, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, of injuries resulting from a farm accident.

Janice Schuetz was born March 29, 1948, at Le Mars, the daughter of LeRoy & Maxine (Kilker) Rolling. Janice was raised and educated in the Oyens and Remsen area. She attended St. Catherine Grade School and graduated from Remsen St. Mary High School in 1966. After high school Janice did domestic work in the Remsen area.

She married Lyle Schuetz July 27, 1968, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens. The couple made their home on a farm near Alton.

Janice loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She raised chickens to sell eggs and was known as the egg lady in the Alton area. She loved gardening but her passion was refinishing old furniture and going to auctions.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Church Guild and St. Mary Rosary Society, all of Alton.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle of Alton; daughter, Kay and her husband Jason Huff of Fremont, Neb., son Mike and his wife Gina Schuetz of Hospers, son Dan and his wife Sonia Schuetz of Remsen, son Kenneth Schuetz of Alton, daughter Jean and her husband Jared Block of Alton; grandchildren, Brooke and Bryan Huff, Nathaniel, Taylor and Nick Schuetz, Emilee and Brianna Schuetz, Elizabeth and Rachael Block; sister Marilyn and her husband Marvin Maly of Onawa, sister, Marie Benedix of Correctionville, sister JoAnn and her husband Mark Sudtelgte of Remsen, brother Russell and his wife Pam Rolling of Oyens, brother Jim Rolling of Glennwood, brother, Larry and his wife LeAnn Rolling of Le Mars, brother Kirk Rolling of Le Mars, brother Glenn and his wife Julie Rolling of Le Mars; and a brother-in-law, Rich and his wife Beth Schuetz of Newcastle, Wyo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert Rolling; her father and mother-in-law, Ralph and Rita Schuetz; a brother-in-law, Robert Benedix; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Schuetz.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (5/26/2009) at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Eisele officiating. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery in Alton. Visitation was after 4 p.m. Monday, at the church, with a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. The Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen was in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Nathaniel and Taylor Schuetz, Talon Penning, Jason Benedix, Matt Schuetz and Dave Rolling.
