Jim "Dink" Warren, 71, of Akron, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
James L. Warren was born Oct. 11, 1937, in Akron, the son of Miles and Rita (McGraw) Warren. Jim attended school in Akron. He worked with a traveling carnival for more than 20 years. Later, he settled in St. Cloud, Minn., where he worked at a packinghouse.
In 1978, he moved back to Akron. Jim worked construction and was also a farm hand. Later, he tended bar at the Hi-Lite in Le Mars, American Legion in Akron, and Mo Diddlee's in Akron until his health began to fail.
Dink loved the Dallas Cowboys and was an avid collector of their memorabilia. In 1997, he attended the Super Bowl.
Dink enjoyed gardening, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his siblings: Robert Warren of Downey, Calif., Donald Warren of Redlands, Calif., Richard Warren and his special friend Bev Bradley of Sioux City, Dennis Warren and his wife Shirley of Sioux City, Chuck Warren and his wife Jeannie of Sioux City, and Nancy Vanderham and her fiancé Keith Allman of Oto; and numerous niece, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arnold and Milan; sister-in-law, Pat Warren; two nephews, Phillip Vanderham and Thomas Myers; and a great-niece, Amy Sorensen.
Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Pastor Larry Nilson of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Cherokee, will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
