Ronald A. "Ron" Loutsch, 77, of rural Westfield, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Ronald Andrew Loutsch was born July 13, 1931, on the family farm near Oyens, the son of Emil and Rose (Hunt) Loutsch. He attended grade school at St. Catherine's in Oyens and later high school in Remsen, all the while, helping his family on the farm. He graduated from Remsen St. Mary's in 1949. Following graduation, he started farming near Kingsley, and after two years he moved to a farm near Westfield, where he operated a dairy farm.

Ron was united in marriage to Lorna M. Kunkel June 16, 1953, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. They continued farming and raising livestock near Westfield. Ron was still actively involved in the farming operation until his death.

Ron was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron and member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as a leader for the "Iowest" 4-H Club for more than 28 years. He also served for many years on the Plymouth County Fair Board, Iowa Rabbit Breeders Association, Plymouth County Farm Bureau, and Mid American Dairy Association.

Ron loved raising livestock, especially dairy cattle, chickens, and rabbits. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, and playing cards. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of more than 55 years, Lorna of Westfield; 14 children: RoseMary Mullane and her husband Dan of Mascoutah, Ill., Janice Rolfes and her husband Rick of Merrill, Tony Loutsch and his wife Patti of Sioux City, Danny Loutsch of Westfield, Barb Heeren and her husband Gary of Akron, Judy Loutsch of Le Mars, Phyllis Newman and her husband Bob of Le Mars, Roger Loutsch of Westfield, Florence Skinner and her husband Ray of Bronson, Margie Perry and her fiancé Myron Kolker of Le Mars, Tim Loutsch of Westfield, Georgia Steen and her husband Corey of Akron, Brian Loutsch and his wife Doris of Le Mars and Brad Loutsch of Westfield; 30 grandchildren; three great -grandsons; two brothers: Ray Loutsch and his wife Joan of Oyens, and Jerry Loutsch of Indianola; two sisters, Dorothy Kilker of Le Mars, and Mary Wells and her husband Ben of Cherokee; a sister-in-law, Wilma Loutsch of Dysart; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Orville, Bobby, and Bill; a brother-in-law, Robert Kilker; a sister-in-law, Rosie Loutsch; a son, Joseph Loutsch; and a son-in-law, Brent Perry.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Monsignor Richard Zenk will celebrate. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Wednesday), with the family present after 6 p.m., and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary, all at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements.
