Kathryn R. Bennett, 88, of Storm Lake, and formerly of Hinton, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Kathryn Rebecca Brown was born May 29, 1920, in Le Mars, the daughter of Clyde and Katheryn (Berger) Brown. She soon became known to family and friends as Kate.

Kate was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Hinton, and was a lifelong member of that congregation.

Kate attended elementary and high school in Hinton before continuing her education at Morningside College in Sioux City. She graduated from Morningside in 1942 with a degree in education.

On Nov. 23, 1943, Kate was united in marriage to Robert W. Bennett in Corvallis, Ore. The couple was blessed with four children: Robert, Betty, Byron and Clyde.

Kate was an avid golfer who liked to add artistic flair to her favorite pastime by painting golf balls and markers. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending summers on West Lake Okoboji. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

A loving wife and devoted mother, Kate's family was always her first priority. She treasured the time she spent with her husband and children and when grandchildren and great-grandchildren came along, they held a special place in her heart. Her kind and caring ways will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Robert (Jean) Bennett of Storm Lake, Betty Baker of Tucson, Ariz., Byron (Kathy) Bennett of Mesa, Ariz., Clyde (Judy) Bennett of Billings, Mont.; nine grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert W. Bennett; her sisters, Marjorie Reed and Lillian Josephson; and her brother, Ralph Brown.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4, at the United Methodist Church in Hinton. Interment will be at a later date in Graceland Cemetery in Sioux City. A time of visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10 a.m. for one hour prior to the start of the memorial service. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the United Methodist Church in Hinton or the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Cards to the family may be sent to 1008 Emerald Dr., Storm Lake, Iowa 50588.
