AKRON, Iowa -- Fern Beatrice Roy, 92, of Akron died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at Akron City Convalescent Care Center.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Jerry Crow officiating. Private graveside services will be held. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Fern B. Roy was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Sioux City, the daughter of Emil A. and Amelia (Larson) Johnson. Fern attended business college and was employed as an accountant and auditor, church secretary and credit manager.
She married the Rev. David Roy on June 29, 1943, in Sioux City at Augustana Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Roy and Fern served the congregations in Northern Minnesota and Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural Akron and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. He preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 1985.
Mrs. Roy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Yo Ma Co., E.L.C.W. and taught the preschool Sunday school class for many years. She was a charter member of the Home Culture Club of Akron. Fern also taught a Swedish class in Akron and completed Swedish genealogy research for many people in the Akron area.
Mrs. Roy is survived by two daughters, Annelle Beck and her husband, Terry of Golden, Colo., and Karen Roy and her husband, Bob Day of Henderson, Nev.; two grandsons, Matthew and his wife, Rachel, and Daniel Beck; two sisters-in-law; and 11 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lloyd Johnson.
Memorials may be directed to World Hunger or Habitat for Humanity.
