AKRON, Iowa -- Leonard A. "Rocky" Rochester, 92, of Akron passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at Akron Care Center in Akron.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Carlsen Funeral Home, Schroeder Chapel in Akron, with Jehovah Witness Vince Harnack officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Akron. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services Monday at the funeral home.
Leonard A. "Rocky" Rochester was born Oct. 10, 1911, in Jefferson, S.D., the son of Franklin and Anna (Beaubien) Rochester. He attended school in Jefferson. Following school, he moved to Nebraska. He farmed there until moving to the Akron area in the early 1960s, where he continued farming. Later in life, he took up iron scrapping, something he was still active in right up until his passing.
He was united in marriage to Priscilla Trudeau, Dolly McNaughton and later to Rebecca Towns.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. He enjoyed the times spent with family and friends but most of the time spent scrapping iron.
Survivors include two stepsons, Mark Towns and his wife, Angie, of Sioux City and F. Wayne Stratton and his wife, Sally, of Alma, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Margaret Towns of Minneapolis, Minn.; a nephew, Dennis Begnoche and his wife, Glenda, of Sioux City; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Duane, in 1952; a sister, Sidonia Verbeski, in 1999; and his wife, Rebecca Rochester, in 1989.
