David J. Roder, 50, of Sioux City, formerly of Denver, Colo., and Remsen, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, Iowa, with the Revs. Timothy Johnson and Merlin Schrad officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Dave was born Dec. 4, 1954, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Jerome "Jerry" and Pauline "Peg" (Frank) Roder. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen from which he graduated in 1973. His first job was with BECO and Co. in Remsen, while he was still in high school. After graduation, he worked on road construction for various companies. In the late 1970s, he moved to Denver, Colo., where he worked for several cement companies before starting his own cement construction business in the mid-1980s, called Quality Flat Works. He took pride in his finishing work.

On June 12, 1981, he married Denise Mosely in Denver. She died July 2004. On March 27, 1993, he had a pickup accident in Denver. He was hospitalized for three months and in rehabilitation until Dec. 15, 1994, when he was brought to Sioux City and entered Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center, where he was near his dad who was a resident there. He was loved by the staff of the home, especially his favorite nurse, Sherri.

He was a very caring person, who loved his family and his family loved him greatly. He will be missed by all.

Survivors include his mother, Peg of Sioux City; three sisters, Susan and her husband, Fred Brown, Gerianne and her husband, George Olson, and Janice Roder, all of Sioux City; four brothers, Michael, Nicholas and Daniel and his wife, Judy, all of Sioux City, and Steve and his wife, Sandi, of Remsen; 13 nieces and nephews; a great-niece; and a great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry; a brother, Patrick; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Klein.
