AKRON, Iowa -- Iva Gertrude Powell, 94, of Akron died Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Akron City Convalescent Care Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Brule Creek Lutheran Church in rural Akron, S.D., with the Rev. Richard Wiekert officiating. Burial will be in Brule Creek Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa.

Iva Powell was born June 23, 1909, in Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of George W. and Nancy (Allen) Pike. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at South St. Paul Lutheran Church in Elk Point, S.D. She attended Akron Public School until the ninth grade.

She married Howard Powell on Dec. 4, 1927, in Vermillion, S.D. They lived on a farm in the Akron area until moving into Akron, where they lived for 25 years. Mr. Powell preceded her in death on July 14, 1997.

She was a member of Brule Creek Lutheran Church. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards.

She is survived by a son, Donald Powell of Rutland, S.D.; a son-in-law, Wayne Miller of Hospers, Iowa; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Helen and Mabel; a brother, Eldwin; a daughter, Margaret Miller; and a granddaughter, Mary Remus.
