PAULLINA, Iowa -- Hertha V. Niebuhr, 95, of Paullina died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsley, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa, with the Revs. Donald Erickson and Duane Miesner officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Germantown. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina.

Hertha Viola Mews was born June 1, 1909 on a farm near Granville, Iowa, the daughter of August and Anna (Haese) Mews.

She was united in marriage to Alfred G. Niebuhr on Sept. 17, 1928, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Granville area until 1967, when they retired and moved into Paullina. Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1980, in Cherokee, Iowa.

She continued to make her home in Paullina and entered Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in March 1993.

She was baptized and later confirmed into the Lutheran faith and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown and at one time was active in the Ladies Aid of the church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Shirley and Jerald Campbell of Pierson, Iowa; two sons and their wives, Vernon and Mary Ann Niebuhr of San Mateo, Calif., and Robert and Sally Niebuhr of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ivadell Niebuhr and Stella Rehder both of Paullina; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Lyle; a grandson, Russell Campbell; a sister, Ruth Kniese; and a brother, Marvin Mews.

Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown.
