NAME OF DECEASED & AGE: Mrs. Mary Steffen, 72 yrs, 3 mo, 28 days
DATE OF DEATH: She fell asleep at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday
PLACE OF DEATH:
CAUSE OF DEATH: The deceased was afflicted with a tumor for some time and her general health was greatly impaired. About three weeks ago she began to fall away very rapidly and all knew that her time of departure was very close.
DATE OF BIRTH: September 27, 1858
PLACE OF BIRTH: Schleswig Holstein, Germany
PARENTS: Mr. and Mrs. Dietrich Mueller
SPOUSE & DATE & PLACE of 1st MARRIAGE: In 1877 she was united in marriage to Mr. John Steffen of Schleswig, Holstein, Germany.
SPOUSE & DATE & PLACE of 2nd MARRIAGE: ---
OCCUPATION: In 1893, the Steffens emigrated to America, settling at once on a farm near Kingsley, Iowa.
MEMBER OF: In early infancy, she became a member of the Christian church by the rite of Holy Baptism and at the age of 15 years, after due instruction, was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
SURVIVORS: …seven children: Claus Steffen of Bloomfield, Nebr.; John Seffen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Carl Steffen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mrs. Maggie Palm of Leeds, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Ludwig of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Ludwig of Hinton, Iowa; Alma Steffen of Kingsley, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
PRECEDED in DEATH by: …a son, Otto, who passed away about three years ago.
PLACE OF BURIAL: Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lincoln Township
