GRANDMA STEPHENS DIES AT AGE OF 99

Mrs. Margaret Stephens, 99 years of age, passed away Sunday in a Sioux City hospital following a two weeks illness due to a fractured hip. Mrs. Stephens had been a resident of Plymouth County for nearly 75 years. She is survived by five generations of descendants.

Mrs. Stephens was born February 12, 1851, in Grant county, Wisconsin. She came to Iowa and Plymouth County in 1874. She was married to Edward Stephens in 1872, at Hazel Green, Wis. The couple farmed for many years in Lincoln Township in the vicinity of Hinton.

Since Mr. Stephen’s death, she has resided at a number of places in this vicinity, and for a number of years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. W. N. Holder, in Hancock township. For a number of years she lived in the home of her son, Edward, also.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Maude Holder; a son, Edward Stephens of Hinton; 23 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and one great great great grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Hinton, with Rev. W.C. Smith officiating. Burial was in the Lincoln Township cemetery.
