WILLARD SHAW PASSED AWAY TODAY DUE TO POLIO

Willard Shaw, who was admitted to St. Joseph hospital at Sioux City Wednesday morning with an attack of polio, died this Thursday morning. He resided on a farm near Westfield and was formerly a resident in the vicinity of James. He was 25 years of age.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; a son, Jimmy, and a daughter, Sandy; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Shaw; a sister, Mrs. Jack Spies; and a brother, Donald Shaw, serving in the armed forces.

DIES OF POLIO.
Polio claimed its first victim this month when Willard George Shaw, 25-year-old Westfield, Ia., farmer died Thursday at a Sioux City hospital. He was admitted for treatment on Wednesday when his condition turned “serious.”

Mr. Shaw was the 20th fatality this year from the four-state area.

Mr. Shaw was born June 8, 1927, at Logan, Ia.

Survivors are the widow, the former Mary Ann Hoefling of LeMars; two children, James Charles and Susan Sandra; a sister, Mrs. John Spies of Hinton, Ia.’ a brother, Pvt. Donald E. at Fort Banning, Ga., and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard C. Shaw of Sioux City.

The body was taken to Perasso Bros. funeral home.

Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic church at LeMars. Rev. J. G. Small of Akron, Ia., officiated. Burial was at LeMars.

The rosary was recited at 8 p.m. Sunday at Perasso Bros. chapel, Rev. John Turza officiated.

Polia Causes Death of Young Westfield Man
Willard Shaw Buried Monday

Death of a 25-year-old Westfield farmer, who died of bulbar polio Thursday at St. Joseph’s hospital in Sioux City, marked Plymouth county’s first 1952 polio fatality.

Funeral services for Willard George Shaw were held at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at St. Joseph’s Catholic church, LeMars. Rev. J. G. Small of Akron officiated and burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Shaw was admitted to St. Joseph’s Wednesday morning in serious condition and died the following morning. He was born June 8, 1927 at Logan, Iowa, was raised on a farm near Westfield and was formerly a resident in the vicinity of James.

Survivors are his wife, Mary Ann; two children, James Charles and Susan Sandra; a sister, Mrs. John Spies of Hinton; a brother Pvt. Donald E. of Fort Banning, Ga., and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard C. Shaw of Sioux City.

WILLARD SHAW FUNERAL SERVICE HELD MONDAY

Funeral services of Willard G. Shaw, 25, who died last week Thursday of bulbor polio in a Sioux City hospital was held at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic church at LeMars. Rev. J.G. Skall of Akron officiated and burial was in the parish cemetery at LeMars.

He resided on a farm near Westfield which he purchased about two years ago, and was formerly a resident in the vicinity of James.

He was born June 8, 1927, at Logan, Iowa, and attended high school at Leeds.

Survivors include his widow, Mary Ann; a son, Jimmy, and a daughter, Sandra Sue; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Shaw; a sister, Mrs. Jack Spies; and a brother, Donald Shaw.

Pallbearers were Robert Litterick, Delbert Johns, Joe Heirtz, Russell Parks, George Bern and Cletus Niehus.
