REINHARD FISCHER SHOT TO DEATH
Reinhard Fischer, aged LeMars farmer, died of a shotgun wound in his head Wednesday morning. Coroner S.H. Luken said death occurred about 7 a.m. Mr. Fischer had breakfast with his wife and helped with the dishes and seemed in good spirits.
The coroner said he apparently placed the muzzle of a 12 gauge double barrel shot gun in his mouth and pushed one of the triggers with a piece of lath. Although both barrels were loaded, only one was discharged. Mr. Fischer had gone to the basement of their new home at 109 5th St. N.W., just prior to the time Mrs. Fischer heard the shot.
At first she thought it was a piece of wood falling and went to the basement to investigate.
Reinhard Fischer was born October 23, 1880, in Germany. He came to the United States in February of 1893, at the age of 13, and lived on a farm in Union township until retiring to LeMars in February 1956.
On February 22, 1907, he was married to Sophia Onken in LeMars.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, at 2 p.m. at the Mauer funeral chapel with Rev. L.L. Belk officiating. Burial will be in the city cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Sophia of LeMars; two sons, Elmer of Cherokee and Herman of Marcus; two daughters, Mrs. Henrietta Rubert, Cherokee and Miss Lorna Fischer of Phoenix, Arizona; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Anton of California and Gerhard of Idaho.
He was a member of St. John’s American Lutheran Church.
