OBERT, Neb. -- Carla J. Nelson, 48, of Obert died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wynot, Neb., with the Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Wintz Funeral Home in Hartington, Neb.

Carla J. Nelson was born March 24, 1956, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon and Marie Britt. She grew up 10 miles south of Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars High School. She attended Fort Dodge Community College and received a degree in business administration.

She married Thomas C. Nelson on June 5, 1976, at Neptune, Iowa. After college, she and Tom lived in several cities in Iowa before moving to Obert, Neb. in January of 1982. Carla had been working at Farm Service Center in Hartington since 1990.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wynot. She helped out with 4-H Junior League and was a cook at Holy Trinity Church Camp at Tinturn for the past seven years. Carla loved playing with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Tom of Obert; two daughters and their husbands, Monica and Pat Brodersen of Battle Creek, Iowa and Brenda and Tony Buschkamp of Wynot, Neb.; a son, Brad Nelson of Hartington, Neb.; two grandsons, Patrick Brodersen and Logan Buschkamp; three step grandchildren, Jessica, Rachel and Jordan Brodersen; her mother, Marie Britt of Le Mars; three brothers and their wives, Gerald and Pat Britt of Aurelia, Iowa, Dennis and Joyce Britt of Le Mars and Randy and Sheila Britt of Le Mars; and two sisters and their husbands, Diane and Robert Cloud of Danbury, Iowa and Carol and Doug Ryan of Kingsley, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father; and father-in-law.
