SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- James "Jim" Mayrose, 34, of Sioux Center died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

James Francis Mayrose was born in Le Mars, Iowa, on June 11, 1969, to Richard "Rick" and Lynette (Fisher) Mayrose. He was raised in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Community High School with the class of 1987. He participated in many high school activities, excelling in track and field. In 1987 he was crowned state champion in the 800 meter sprint at the Iowa State Track Championships. He went on to attend the University of South Dakota, where he majored in sports medicine and was a member of the track team.

On Oct. 4, 1999, he was united in marriage to Rachel (Van Dyke) Pfeil at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center. He became a member of Central Reformed Church and was devoted to Christ in his own way.

While in Sioux Center, he was employed at Quik-To-Fix Foods and was currently employed at the Foreign Candy Company in Hull, Iowa. At Foreign Candy, he was in charge of tracking product delivery and inventory. He also was currently pursuing a psychology degree at Buena Vista University.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of four years, Rachel Mayrose of Sioux Center; their two children, Taylor and Graham; his parents, Lynette and Keith Tullis of Sioux City, and Rick Mayrose of Mount Olive, N.C.; his brother, Jeremy Mayrose and Amy Dubkzek of Omaha; three sisters, Jennifer and Eric Fox of Merrill, Iowa, Erin Tullis and Tom Wilson of Omaha, and Julia Mayrose and her fiance, Pype Watson of Mesa, Ariz.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Larry and Brenda Van Dyke of Sioux Center; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lynn and Susan Van Dyke of Sioux Center, Dave and Vicki Van Dyke of Sioux City, Paula and Heath Oostenink of Hull, Iowa, and Jami and Chad Vollmecke of Waukee, Iowa; his grandmothers, Mary Fischer of Nashua, Iowa, Helen Mayrose of Le Mars, Marguarite Tullis of Hinton, Iowa, June Van Dyke of Sanborn, Iowa, and Katherine Van Der Vliet of Sioux Center.

He was preceded in death by Rachel's mother, Ellen Van Dyke; a nephew, Craig Van Dyke; grandparents, Ellis and Betty Rietsma; and grandfathers, Francis "Fritz" Mayrose, James Fisher, Lloyd Tullis, John Van Dyke and Ed Van Der Vliet.
