ELK POINT, S.D. -- Melissa Ann Mau, 18-year-old daughter of Tony and Donna Mau of Elk Point, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Vermillion, S.D.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Elk Point, with the Rev. Mary Feistner officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Siecke Funeral Home in Elk Point.

Melissa was born May 28, 1985, in Akron, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church. She graduated in May of this year from Elk Point-Jefferson High School, where she was active in chorus, band, volleyball, basketball, track and golf. During the summer of 2002, she was chosen to participate in a volleyball tournament in Hawaii. This fall she began her freshman year at the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. She was majoring in elementary education and resided in Mikkelson Dorm.

She enjoyed playing pick up basketball and volleyball games with her friends, listening to music and coming home on weekends. She enjoyed getting together with her classmates to attend movies, go to high school games or just hang out. She adored all of her friends and family, especially her brother, Jarod.

She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every day. She was known for her goofy looks, quick remarks and her uncanny ability to memorize automobile license plates. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

In addition to her parents and brother, she is survived by her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Langle of Elk Point; paternal grandparents, Tom and Ceil Mau of Elk Point; great-grandmothers, Dorothy Mau and Mabel Haberer, both of Wayne, Neb.; her aunts and uncles, the Rev. Deanna Langle of Decorah, Iowa, Mary and Doug Renkly of Harlan, Iowa, and Wade and Angie Langle of Elk Point; her cousins, Cameron, Ben and Julia Renkly; and many other relatives and friends.
