Leatrice Johnson-Ruhrer, 76, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Allen D. Call officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Allen D. Call officiating., at the funeral home.

Leatrice Joy Semple was born Friday, Feb. 11, 1927, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Vera (Morehead) Semple. She attended Central High School and graduated in 1945.

She married Donald Johnson in 1946, in Sioux City. On Dec. 14, 1949, Donald was killed in the explosion at Swift and Company, leaving his wife and two young children, Robert Michael, 18 months, and Linda Diane, six months old.

She married Carlysle Ruhrer on June 16, 1951, in Sioux City. They had four more children, Craig, Susan, Sheri and Gina.

Survivors include her sons, Robert Ruhrer of Sioux City and Craig and Melissa Ruhrer of South Sioux City; her daughters, Linda Maxfield, Susan and Timothy Utesch, Sheri and Brad Case and Gina Ruhrer, all of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Lois and James Bookhart of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Don and Carlysle; a brother, Bobby; a sister, Lenice; as well as her parents.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Shane Rol, Camron Rol, Dax Ruhrer, Brent Ruhrer, Derek Ruhrer, Seth Ruhrer and Michael Ruhrer.
