CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Russell L. Kramer, 88, of Cherokee, formerly of Kingsley, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, at Careage Hill in Cherokee following a lengthy illness.

A prayer service for family and friends will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with the Rev. Ray Hampton officiating. Graveside services will be 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Russell was born Oct. 22, 1915, in Kingsley, to Ted and Ethel (Hawkins) Kramer. He attended Grand Meadow Schools in rural Kingsley. He had lived in Portland, Ore., in the 1940s and 1950s, where he worked for Northwest Ice and Cold Storage. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1958. He had worked as a farmhand for many years, retiring in 1978.

He enjoyed traveling, visiting with relatives and the elderly.

He is survived by a sister, Shirley Griffin of Cherokee; a brother and his wife, Marvin and Connie Kramer of Portland, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Beverly Reisner and Mabel Reedy.
