John A. Knudsen, 73, of Sioux City died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Allen D. Call of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Knudsen was born March 8, 1928, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Peter and Bessie (Parker) Knudsen Sr. He was raised in Anthon, Iowa, and spent the majority of his adult life in Sioux City.
He married Jane "Kae" (Kinney) Christy on Oct. 14, 1972, in Sioux City. He was a heavy equipment operator with the Sioux City Water Department for 36 years.
He enjoyed dancing. He was a 40-year member of the South Sioux City Eagles Club, where he held every office at one time or another, including president for a three-year term. He also was a "Ritual Conductor" for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Jane "Kae" Knudsen; his stepmother, Mary Knudsen of Sioux City; three daughters, Theresa Sisk and her husband, Jerry of Calhoun, Ga., Patty Andersen and her husband, Paul of Sioux City, and Robin Blaker of Sioux City; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Janet and Ray Ramirez of Sioux City, and Mary and Eugene Roeber of Emerson, Neb.; four brothers, Peter Knudsen and his wife, Doris of Sioux City, Parker Knudsen and his wife, Patty of Sioux City, Raymond Knudsen of Chicago, and Ed Knudsen and his wife, Sue of Sioux City; two sisters, Mamie Foster and Joyce Phillips, both of Sioux City; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Dodson; a stepdaughter, Jane Anderson; and a great-granddaughter, Jordyn Olson.
Pallbearers will be Chad Anderson, Bob Talley, Tony and Todd Pille, Bobby Knudsen and Paul Andersen. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Gunderson, Charles Powell and Verlyn Schuldt.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
