HAWARDEN, Iowa -- Larry F. Kelhower, 64, of Hawarden died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, at Hawarden Community Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Methodist Church in Hawarden, with the Rev. Tim Walker officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Larry F. Kelhower was born Dec. 15, 1939, in Akron, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mildred (Hout) Kelhower. He graduated from Hawarden High School in 1957.
He married Ruby DeRaad on Sept. 29, 1962, in Hawarden. They made their home in Hawarden, where he was a heavy equipment operator. He was employed with LG Everist and later hauled flour for Metz Bakery in Sioux City. He helped lay the fiber optic line that came into Hawarden.
He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and loved to go camping and fishing. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ruby of Hawarden; a brother and his wife, Donald and Kay Kelhower of Hawarden; three nephews, Brian (Crista) Kelhower of Hawarden, Patrick (Marie) Kelhower of Hudson, S.D., and John DeRaad of Silver City, Iowa; a niece, Janet Slaymaker of Des Moines; and great-niece, Stormy Slaymaker of Des Moines; and a brother-in-law, Alfred DeRaad and his wife, Sonja of Sioux City.
