IOWA CITY -- Frances E. Shrauger, 89, of Iowa City, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Ill.
The former Frances E. Kephart was born Feb. 21, 1915, in Riverside, the daughter of Henry A. and Violet (nee Safourek) Kephart. She was a graduate of the University of Iowa. Frances married Harold F. Shrauger Jr. in 1943.
Frances spent her early career as a teacher and 20 years as an administrative executive for Harker's Wholesale Meats prior to her retirement. Frances was a lifelong resident of the state of Iowa, and was active in community affairs in the cities of Atlantic and Le Mars, before retiring and moving to Iowa City.
She was an avid reader and a gourmet chef. She was devoted to nature and avian conservation, the preservation of wildlife and most of all - her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Frances Shrauger Snow of Barrington, Ill.; a granddaughter, Jennifer E. Snow of Elmwood Park, Ill,; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan Frances and Donegan Edward Snow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold F. Shrauger Jr. in May 2004, and a brother, Norbert C. Kephart.
Arrangements for a memorial service are pending and are under the direction of Davenport Family Funeral Home in Barrington, Ill. For information call (847) 381-3411.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Nature Conservancy, the National Audubon Society, the University of Iowa, or a local animal welfare organization.
