HINTON, Iowa -- Ruth L. Jones, 80, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, formerly of Hinton, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Ruthven Care Center in Ruthven, Iowa.

Memorial services and family visitation will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hinton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jason Gutzmer officiating. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, with Gene Krueger officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City.

Ruth was born Nov. 29, 1923, in Sioux City and graduated from East High School. She began her college education at Morningside College and graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa.

She married Lamar Jones of Hinton on May 27, 1944. The couple and their four children lived in Hinton until 1973, when they moved to Spirit Lake.

The couple owned the Jones Food Center in Hinton, the Hinton Telephone Company and organized the Marrland Heights development south of Hinton. After moving to Spirit Lake, she worked as a realtor broker with the Blaine Hoien Agency in Spirit Lake.

She was on the board of trustees of Morningside College and enjoyed participating in church activities throughout her life.

She is survived by three sisters-in-law, Cleo Sipma of Hinton, Elaine and her husband, Don Oxenford, of Marion, Iowa, and Myrna Jones of Le Mars, Iowa. four children and their spouses, Gary and Judy Jones of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Lamar and Vickie Jones Jr. of Omaha, Jacqueline and Richard Kelley of Ruthven, Iowa, and Jeffrey and Sherri Jones of Enid, Okla.; 12 grandchildren, Michelle Eads, Cheryl Weinberger, Matthew, Rebecca, Sydni, Alex and Bayli Jones, Katie Meyer, Duncan Kelley, Ryan, Jon and Justin Connealy; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Jones; her father, Elmer Elliott; her mother, Ethel Elliott; and a brother, John Elliott.

Memorials may be directed to the Hinton United Methodist Church or Spirit Lake United Methodist Church.
