ROCK VALLEY -- Shirley Bos Vande Vegte, 68, of Rock Valley, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, surrounded by her loving family at her home.

Shirley Ann Poeckes was born May 24, 1940, in Le Mars, the daughter of John and Malinda (Budden) Poeckes. She grew up in Remsen where she graduated from Remsen St. Malry's High School.

Shirley was married to Ted Stallman on June 24, 1958, in Remsen. They later divorced. She lived in various Midwest towns before moving to Rock Valley in 1974. Shirley was married to Maynard Bos on May 29, 1979. Maynard died June 3, 2002. Shirley married Arnie Vande Vegte Feb. 18, 2005.

She worked at Frank's Grocery and later Van's Food Pride. She was well-known for her cake making and decorating.

She loved sewing, cooking, traveling, crafts, spend time with friends, family and her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Arnie; son, Randy Stallman of Rock Valley; daughters, Robin (Garry) DeBruin and Julie (Don) Kats, all of Rock Valley; stepsons, Duane (Joleen) Bos of Vermillion, S.D., Randy (Cheryl) Bos of Rock Rapids, Rick (Angela) Bos of Larchwood, David (Corrine) Bos of Norfolk, Neb.; stepdaughter, Amy (Chuck) Meiburg of Rock Rapids; stepsons, Norm (Deb) Vande Vegte and Jeff (Corrine) Vande Vegte, all of Rock Valley, Kevin (Kim) Vande Vegte of Le Mars; stepdaughters, Lisa Vande Vegte of Sioux Falls, S.D., Marnie (Kevin) Teppen of Minneapolis, Minn.; five grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; brother David (Becky) Poeckes of Remsen; and sister, Darlene (Dale) Hansen of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maynard Bos; and a step-grandchild, Landon Bos.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Reformed Church in Rock Valley with the Rev. Mike Van Hamersveld officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation will be Tuesday until 5 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home on Rock Valley. Visitation will continue at First Reformed Church with the family present from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
