KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Fay Walden, 103, of Kingsley died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Earnest and Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley, with the Rev. Paul Evans officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Walden, the former Fay Mary Ward, was born March 8, 1898, in Grant City, Mo. She was one of 14 children born to Noah and Elizabeth (Potteroff) Ward. She came with her family to the Kingsley area at the age of 14, and was a Kingsley resident for 89 years. She kept house for her brothers, Gordon and Bert, who farmed northwest of Kingsley.

She married Dwight Frank Walden on Dec. 10, 1916, in Kingsley. They were married for 67 years. He died Dec. 19, 1983.

She had worked for Eugene Derby at Derby Funeral Home in Kingsley and assisted Dr. Wendel in delivery many babies in the area. She had been a resident of the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center for the past 10 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Verlinden of Sioux City, and Burnice Thibodeau of Huntley, Ill.; a son-in-law, Ray Potts of Rock Valley, Iowa; a grandson she raised, Larry Roepke of Littleton, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two nieces that she considered as daughters, Phyllis Gries and Betty Murray, both of Kingsley.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Potts; a son, Glen Walden; and 13 brothers and sisters.
