LOUISE VALENTINE

LE MARS, Iowa—Louise Perrin Valentine, 89, of LeMars, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 1995, at the Plymouth Manor Care Center.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Center Township Cemetery in rural Castana, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Valentine, the former Louise Perrin, was born April 16, 1906, the daughter of Chester M. and Frances Masters Perrin, in the Perrin family home between Castana and Mapleton, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Castana High School, and then from Iowa State University with a bachelor of science degree in home economics education. After teaching for a year in Martinsville, Mo., she returned to Iowa State University and earned her master’s degree. She taught school for a number of years before marrying Edmund B. Valentine, June 9, 1936. She was married by her father, an ordained minister, at home. She moved with her husband and daughter to various locations while he was on active duty. After the war, Mrs. Valentine taught school in Castana, and later in Sergeant Bluff when they moved to Sioux City. They later lived in Boyden, Iowa, until 1975, when they moved to LeMars to be near their daughter.

Mrs. Valentine was a member of the Delta Phi Delta Honor Society, the First Baptist Church in LeMars, and the Gideons International Auxiliary. She was always interested in church and mission work.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Evelyn Valentine of LeMars; a brother, Med Perrin of Mapleton, Iowa; a sister, Gertrude Barry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; and two sisters, Alice Todd and Esther Perrin who died in infancy.
