LE MARS, Iowa -- Earlene Uden, 67, of Le Mars died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery, Ocheyedan, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Earlene Joan Pomrenke was born Jan. 18, 1935, in Ashton, Iowa, to George and Esther (Houwen) Pomrenke. She attended Houwen Country School 11 and graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1953.

Earlene was united in marriage to Melvin Uden on Oct. 15, 1955, in Ocheyedan. While living in Ocheyedan, she worked at Turner's Red Owl Store. The couple moved to Le Mars in February 1962. She then worked for Le Mars Super Value Store until 1975. She later worked for Harker's for 19 years, and later still, she worked part-time jobs with Le Mars Community Schools, The Abbey, Cargo-Express and McDonald's.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and belonged to Sarah Circle. The couple enjoyed many camping trips. She was treasurer of the Woodbury Woody's Camping Club. They also were members of Cutty's Resort in Lake Okoboji. She enjoyed family activities and socializing. She was very proud of her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin of Le Mars; three children and their spouses, Curtis and Denise Uden of Le Mars, Carol and Don Ruden of Le Mars, and Lorrie and Allen Lamb of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three sisters and their husbands, Elnora and Lawrence Dirks of Ocheyedan, Eva and Carl Dieters of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and Erma and Dan Mairose of Le Mars; three brothers, George Jr. and his wife, Bonnie Pomrenke of Sibley, Iowa, Gary Pomrenke of Sibley, and Glenden and his wife, Betty Pomrenke of Worthington, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Esther Pomrenke.

Pallbearers will be George Pomrenke Jr., Gary Pomrenke, Glenden Pomrenke, Jeremy Uden, Jesse Ruden and Christopher Lamb. Honorary pallbearers will be A.J. Lamb, Joshua Lamb, Michael Ruden, Katherine Robinson, Nicole Robinson, Jamie Uden and Angela Ruden.
