AKRON, Iowa -- Eldean Dudley Swoyer, 89, of Akron died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Akron, with the Rev. Larry Madsen officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. today, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Eldean Swoyer was born March 31, 1913, in Richland, S.D., the son of John and Pearl (Blanchard) Swoyer.
He married Helen Tucker on May 8, 1938, in Elk Point, S.D. They farmed in Richland for 16 years and later moved closer to Akron in 1956. They retired to Akron in 1998.
Mr. Swoyer was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served on various church boards. He served on the A.S.C. Board and also on area school boards. In his free time, Eldean loved to travel and loved horses and livestock.
Mr. Swoyer is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons, John and his wife, Gloria of Clarinda, Iowa, and Tom and his wife, Elaine of Akron; two daughters, Sally Wagner of Clifton Park, N.Y., and Orinda Steeneck and her husband, David of Beresford, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Swoyer was preceded in death by a brother, James; two sisters, Tressa and Golda; a son-in-law, John Wagner; and two grandchildren.
