MARCUS, Iowa -- Philomena Schwarz, 95, of Marcus, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Eugene Murray officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Neptune, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary at 3 p.m. and the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Earnest-Rohde Funeral Home in Marcus.

Philomena was born Aug. 13, 1908, in rural Le Mars, the daughter of Frank and Bernadine (Deterts) Harpenau. She grew up in the Le Mars area and attended school at St. Joseph Catholic School in Le Mars.

She married Joseph Schwarz on Dec. 30, 1930, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage, the couple farmed near Remsen, Iowa, for two years. Then south of Le Mars for 20 years until they bought their own farm west of Neptune, Iowa, where they loved until retirement and moved back to Le Mars. Mr. Schwarz died in 1965. She had been a resident of Heartland Care Center in Marcus since 1998.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars until moving to Marcus, where she was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church. She also was a member of Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include six daughters, Eleanor Dreckman of Marcus, Norma McCann and her husband, Patrick, of Ankeny, Iowa, Anita Towns and her husband, Keith, of Hinton, Iowa, Bernice Beaulieu and her husband, James, of Hinton, Darlene Lipert and her husband, Harry, of Lincoln, Neb., and Lois Kingsbury and her husband, James, of Conway, Ark.; a daughter-in-law, Alviria Schwarz of Marcus; 42 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Isadore Harpenau of Remsen, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Rita and Marvin Kolbeck of Le Mars; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Harpenau and Shirley Harpenau, both of Remsen; a brother-in-law and his wife, Charles and Paula Schwarz of Belgrade, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; two sons, Roger in 1968 and Marvin in 1997; a daughter, Donita who died during infancy; two sisters, two sisters, Mary Kolbeck and Evelyn Miller; six brothers, John, Henry, Joseph, Anthony, Father Leo and Al; two grandsons, Keith Schwarz and Keith Towns; a great-great-grandson, Trevor Boldra; and a son-in-law, Jim Dreckman.
