James E. Stowe, 67, of Akron, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Dr. Allen D. Call officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Anthon, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserves. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Stowe was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Sioux City, the son of Ernest E. and Sylvia V. (Banta) Stowe. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He married Lois J. Mallory in 1964, in Luverne, Minn. He was employed with Lefkrow Supply Co. for 26 years, retiring from there as a warehouse manager. He later owned and operated Dad's Place Bar in Sioux City for several years. More recently, he owned and operated Jimbo's Bar in Akron, retiring in April 2003.
He was an avid sports fan, especially the San Francisco and New York Giants. He was an active volunteer and contributor to the Westside Little League, where he was also a long time coach.
He is survived by a son and his wife, James and Lisa Stowe Jr. of Norfolk, Neb.; two stepsons, Arnold Mallory and his wife, Gia, of Kansas City, Mo., and Marlon Stowe of Sioux City; and four sisters, Ernestine Stowe of Sioux City, Bernadine Hanson of Sioux City, Bonita Roberts of Pendleton, Ore., and Lois Whitead of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Doris Koeppe and Joyce Duncan.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Stowe, Rod Hanson, Arnold Mallory, Randy Ogle, Omar Pheeler, Jim "Dink" Warren and Mark Leekley.
