KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Marvel Mae Simons, 74, of Kingsley died Friday, June 25, 2004, at her residence after an extended illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Kingsley, with the Rev. Robert Blair officiating. Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley.
Marvel was born July 28, 1929, in Kingsley, the daughter of John and Florence (Johnson) Franklin. She grew up in Kingsley, graduating from Kingsley High School in 1946. During the time Marvel attended high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society.
She married Lyle Simons on Dec. 27, 1950 at the Congregational Church in Kingsley. She worked at the Kingsley State Bank the first year of their marriage while Lyle served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After Lyle returned from the Army in 1952, they moved to a farm in the Sheldon, Iowa, area. They returned to the Kingsley area in 1962, where they continued to farm.
She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ. She was active in TTT, where she was past president and was involved in TOPS. Marvel also was involved with Mary Kay and Home Interiors.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle Simons of Kingsley; two daughters, Marsha Spaulding and her husband, Don of Des Moines, Iowa, and Deb Byrnes and her husband, John of Omaha, Neb.; a son, Phil Simons of Kingsley; 10 grandchildren, Eric Berg and his wife, Stephanie, Corey Berg, Jebb Stewart and his wife, Jana, Kylee and Jacob Stewart, Erin, Michael and Collin Byrnes, Tyler and Cole Simons; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Olivia and Abigail Berg, Chance Stewart, Lucas Stewart and Hannah Stewart; a sister, Elaine Creasey of Kingsley; and a brother, Laurel Franklin and his wife, Eileen of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lori Cooney; two brothers, Stan and Darrell Franklin; and two brothers in infancy.
