OCCUPATION: He farmed with his father until 1940, when he attended an aircraft mechanics school at Omaha. He then moved to San Diego, where he was employed in an aircraft manufacturing plant until 1942, when he was drafted into the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in North Carolina, St. Louis, Key West, Fla., and Las Vegas. After his marriage they lived in Pyote, Texas, where he was stationed until his discharge in 1946. During his enlistment, he was on a special top secret assignment as an engine specialist on the preparation of the Enola Gay. The couple moved to north of Remsen where they farmed. In 1954 they moved to a farm near Oyens, Iowa. The couple retired in 1962. In 1973, because of health reasons, he entered Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen. His wife died Sept. 11, 1998.

SURVIVORS: …include two daughters and their husbands, Sharon and Michael Truitt of Eugene, Ore., and Debbie and Jim Oldham of New Berlin, Wis.; a son, Daniel, of Sioux City; a son-in-law, John McFadden of Downers Grove, Ill.; three grandchildren; two brothers, Earl and his wife Audrey and Dennis, all of Remsen; and a sister-in-law, Iona Sudtelgte of Brookings, S.D.
PRECEDED in DEATH by: …his parents; a son Keith in infancy; a daughter, Janice McFadden; two brothers, Cletus and Justin; and a sister, Vivian Shea.
PLACE OF BURIAL: St. Marys Cemetery, Remsen, Iowa
