DEATH FOLLOWS A LONG ILLNESS

Mrs. Johnson Pemberton Came Here As A Bride Forty Years Ago

Following a long and painful illness, Mrs. Pemberton, wife of Johnson Pemberton, residing at 421 Third avenue SE, died at the family residence Saturday evening at the age of 66 years. Mrs. Pemberton had suffered from an [unreadable] for some time, and four months ago physicians pronounced her illness incurable. She resigned herself to the inevitable and fortified by the love and helpful administrations of her family and friends met the end with resignation and calmness.

Mrs. Pemberton came to Le Mars as a bride in 1884 and had ever since made her home here and was widely known and esteemed in the community. Her maiden name was Sarah Foster, and she was born June 16, 1858, at Granton, Ontario, Canada, where she was educated and grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage with Johnson Pemberton at Granton, January 1, 1884. Mr. Pemberton had established a home in Le Mars previously and brought his bride here shortly after their wedding.

Three children were born to their union, two children dying in infancy. Mrs. Pemberton is survived by her husband and one son, Arthur L. Pemberton, of Hallock, Minn. She also leaves two brothers and two sisters, who are James Foster, of Granton, Canada, Robert Foster, of Des Moines, Mrs. W.S. McDonald, of Madison, S.D., and Mrs. R. Germaine, of Winnipeg, Canada.

Mrs. Pemberton was a life long member of the Presbyterian church, and was active in church and its kindred societies, and took a healthy interest in community and social affairs. Her life was devoted to her home and in doing good and her neighborly and kindly ways gained her friends in many widely different circles.

The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at the First Presbyterian church, Rev. J.A. Hills and Rev. A.Z. McGogney officiating.

Her brother Robert Foster of Des Moines, and a brother-in-law and a nephew, W.S. McDonald and Ernest McDonald, of Madison, S.D., came to attend the funeral. Her sisters were unable to be present, both being confined to their homes by sickness.
