Friday, November 15, 2002Amy M. Braaten, 26, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002 at her residence in Omaha.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Ellendale, Iowa. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City is in charge of arrangements.
Amy M. Braaten was born July 31, 1976 in Sioux City, the daughter of Marlyn Braaten and Cheryl (Criss) Flynn. She attended school at Sioux City Heelan and graduated in 1994. She moved to Omaha and attended Creighton University and graduated in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in biology. She was currently employed as an Analyst Specialist at Cargill in Blair, Neb. She had been attending classes in pursuit of her PhD. at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, National Honor Society and Who's Who in America. She enjoyed playing volleyball and watching her brother play hockey. She also enjoyed music and her cat, "Kitty."
Survivors include her father, Marlyn Braaten and his wife, Donna, of Everett, Wash.; her mother, Cheryl Flynn and her husband, Eugene, of North Sioux City, S.D.; twin brothers, Eric and Michael Flynn, also of North Sioux City; a sister, Kelsey Flynn of North Sioux; paternal grandparents, Marion and Mavis Braaten of Sioux City; maternal grandfather, Arlie Criss of Westfield, Iowa; four uncles, Arnold Criss, Russell Criss, Marlo Braaten and Mark Braaten; three aunts, Wilma Minter, Sandra Fravel and Marlene Hendrickson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Ester Criss.
Pallbearers will be Arnold Criss, Rod Welch, Marlo Braaten, Mark Braaten, Don Shiu and Craig Beaubien.
