JESSIE L. SHERWOOD

MOVILLE, Iowa—Jessie L. Sherwood, 87, of Moville, longtime area educator, died Monday, Jan. 8, 1996, at Colonial Manor of Kingsley after a brief illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Moville United Methodist church with the Rev. Orrin T. Potter officiating. Burial will be in the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m. at McCulloch Funeral Home, Moville. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Miss Sherwood was born Jan. 20, 1908, near Kingsley. She graduated from Kingsley High School in 1925 and received a bachelor’s degree from Morningside College and a master’s degree for the University of South Dakota. She taught school in Blencoe, Mapleton, Hinton and Sibley. The last 20 years of her career was in Moville as principal and elementary teacher. She retired in 1973.

Miss Sherwood was a member of Moville United Methodist church, Moville Women’s Club, Moville Senior Center, Meadows Country Club and Delta Kappa Gamma (an honorary teacher’s society in Sioux City.)

Survivors include nieces and nephews and a special friend, Bernice Clark.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Lyle, Craig Davis, Jerry Sherwood, Mike Ferrari, John Petersen, and Jim A., Steve and Dave Bleil.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Woodbury Central Elementary school project.
