Vivian C. Sitzmann of Le Mars, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars, at the age of 91.

The former Vivian Christine Nuebel was born Sept. 21, 1917, at Le Mars, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Meis) Nuebel. She grew up in Le Mars and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School.

Vivian married Laurence Sitzmann June 2, 1937 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Following their marriage the couple farmed for many years northwest of Le Mars. Vivian was active with her husband's seed corn and crop insurance businesses. Laurence died July 7, 1973.

Vivian was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Church Choir, and the Guild and was involved with Scripture Study Clubs. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers Society and a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid bridge player. She loved to dance and travel and enjoyed her family, grandchildren and their activities.

Survivors include her five children, Allen and his wife Peg, Terry and his wife Arlene, Lance and his wife Patty, Vernon and his wife Janna, all of Le Mars, and Carol Reuter and her husband Tony of Bella Vista, Ark.; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosella Sitzmann of Le Mars, Agatha Sitzmann of Le Mars, and Dorothy Crooks of Brookhaven, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Alvina Nuebel of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Josephine Nuebel; her husband Laurence Sitzmann; a granddaughter Anne (Reuter) Weber on June 2, 2004; three brothers: Leo Nuebel and his wife Clem, Lawrence Nuebel and his wife Mildred, and Vincent Nuebel; two sisters: Mary Bohlke and husbands Joe Harpenau and Peter Bohlke, and Leona Sitzmann and her husband Ray.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.

Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a combined rosary by the Catholic Daughters of America and the Christian Mothers Society at 4 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Friday morning for one hour prior to the Funeral Mass.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Ray Reuter, Mike Reuter, John Reuter, Matt Sitzmann, Jason Sitzmann, Jed Sitzmann, Shane Sitzmann, Brad Sitzmann and Jake Sitzmann.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church Building Fund.
