Funeral Thursday for Clara Johnson
Mrs. Alt (Clara) Johnson, 82, of Remsen, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 25, 1982 at her home here.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 29 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church here. Rev. Richard Birdsall will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson, the former Clara Pick, was born Sept. 2, 1899, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Willenborg) Pick. She was raised and received her education at Remsen.
Her marriage to Alt Johnson took place in 1922 at Hoppington, Ia. They moved to Kingsley in 1928 and lived there until returning to Remsen in 1938. They owned and operated the Johnson Café here from 1938 until 1962. Mr. Johnson died on April 21, 1952. Mrs. Johnson continued to operate the café until her retirement in 1962.
She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Christian Mothers and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons, Walter of Westside, Ia. and Richard of Milwaukee, Wis.; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Eileen) Clark of San Diego, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, two sisters and one grandchild.
The Fisch funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
