Sudden Death Comes To Mrs. Gene Poeckes

Death came early today to Mrs. Eugene (Myra) Poeckes, 49, well known Remsen farm lady who passed away in her sleep at her home.

The exact hour of death was not known; she was found lifeless this morning at 5 o’clock by Mr. Poeckes. The family physician, Dr. L. A. George, said her death was due to a heart attack.

Mrs. Poeckes had been under medical care for several weeks but was up and about as usual, even up to the time of her retirement for the night, Wednesday.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic church Saturday morning at 9:30 o’clock. Wake will be at the Fisch funeral home tonight and Friday night.

Native Here

Born on a farm near Remsen February 3, 1906, she was the daughter of Jacob and Anna Pick, early settlers here, and the youngest of a family of eight children. She was united in marriage to Eugene Poeckes February 18, 1930.

Mr. and Mrs. Pick continued farm life in this area where Mrs. Pick was highly admired by her every acquaintance, all of whom were shocked, as the family was heart broken, over her early and sudden passing.

Mrs. Poeckes was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and of the V.F.W. auxiliary.

Survivors besides the grief-stricken husband are the following children; Arthur John, Sioux City; Geraldine, a nurse and Jeannette, a student nurse at St. Vincent’s hospital, Sioux City, and Eugene, Roger, Paul, Mark and Dennis, all at home.

Sisters and brothers, also living in and near Remsen, are: Anton, A.S. (Ollie), Arthur, Gregory, Alfonse, Mrs. Veronica Smith and Clara Johnson.
