After a painful illness of nearly three months death came on Monday January 27 at 10:30 a.m. to relieve Jacob Pick from his sufferings.

We can hardly find language by which we can fittingly portray the good character, christian life and general uprightness that made Jacob Pick beloved by all who ever met him. At all times and under all circumstances was he to be found in the path of righteousness, true to his God, his family, his country and his fellow citizens. Jacob Pick should leave no enemy, for all he did, was done to please or at least to give satisfaction. His wife and children, and his friends as well, sustain a loss that is boundless, and no words, but time only, with the help of Christian hope, can heal the smarting heartsores that were caused by his too early demise.

Jacob Pick was born in the parish Marot in the Duche of Nassan, Germany, on the 12th day of October, 1866. When but three years old he came with his parents (Anton and Helena Pick) to this country. Their first home was near New Vienna and later near Petersburg, Ia. On February 4th, 1890 Miss Anna Willenburg of Petersburg, joined hands with him at the altar, and in 1893 they came to live in this neighborhood. Ten children were born to them and nine are today mourning his loss, one having gone to the hereafter fourteen years ago.

The burial takes place this Thursday, January 30, after solem obsequies at St. Mary’s Catholic church, and will be under the auspices of the members of the Roman Catholic Mutual Protective Association. Details of the funeral will appear in our next issue.
