Death’s Call

Mrs. Anton Pick

Mr. Jacob Pick was called to Arcadia last week to attend the funeral of his mother, Mrs. Anton Pick, who died near Arcadia July 7, at the home of her son-in-law John Erdmann, aged 74 years, 4 months, 2 days. The Dyersville Commercial published this obituary:

Mrs. Pick was formerly a resident of New Vienna and was well and favorably known at the place. She was born at Helferskirchen, Province Nassen, March 5th, 1833.

In 1858 she was married to Anton Pick and in June 1869 the family came to America, settling in New Vienna, Iowa, where they resided until 1893 when she and her husband came to Arcadia and made their home with their son-in-law B. Haverkamp. In March 1896 her husband died, since when she made her home with her son-in-law J. Erdman. She is survived by four sons and two daughters: Mrs. Barney Haverkamp, Mrs. John Erdman and Chris of this place, Jacob and Adam of Remsen and Joseph of Granville. On account of her son Adam being in a hospital at Hot Springs, S,D., under treatment for rheumatism, and on account of the sickness of her son Joe’s wife, these two were unable to attend the funeral. All the other children were in attendance, also her brothers Peter Mühl of Mt. Carmel and Jacob Mühl of Elgin, Nebraska. Mrs. Pick was a good christian lady and a devout member of the Catholic church. The funeral was held Tuesday morning at 9:30 o’clock from St. John’s Catholic church, Rev. Schulte officiating. A large number of sympathizing relatives and friends were in attendance. Interment at the Catholic cemetery. May she rest in peace.
