Mrs. Clarence (Florence) Schroeder of Le Mars, died at the beautiful age of 100 Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Florence Schroeder was born May 17, 1908, to Anton and Theresa (Foerster) Warborg, on her parents farm southwest of Remsen.

Florence was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen. She received her education in both the rural school system and St. Mary Catholic School in Remsen. At the age of 18, she moved into Remsen with her parents, where she continued to help family and friends with domestic work.

On Feb. 5, 1930, she married Clarence Schroeder at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen. They farmed southeast of Remsen until 1936, when they moved to a farm south of Oyens. They continued to farm there until December 2000, when they retired and moved to Park Place Estates in Le Mars. In November 2005 they moved to Good Samaritan Village of Le Mars. Clarence died April 7, 2006. Florence had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center since July 9, 2007.

She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens and St. Catherine Christian Mothers and Guild, where she held various offices. She was a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America court Joan of Arc in Remsen.

Florence and her husband, Clarence, were honored with the Service of Agriculture Award given by the Farm Bureau of Plymouth County.

Family was most important to Florence. She dedicated her life to her husband, seven children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them. She was known to her many friends and family for her selfless concern and care for others. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially her cookies, for her family and playing pinochle with family and friends. Florence also enjoyed square dancing for many years.

Her family will always cherish all the quilts and afghans she made for them.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Darrel and Cloette, Mark and Jeannette. all of Le Mars, Lyle and Phyllis of Granville, Bill and Janys of Kingsley; two daughters and their husbands, Doris and Bob Gengler and Betty and Dick Homan, all of Remsen; 27 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; six sisters-in-law, Florence Schroeder, Joan Schroeder, Valeria Schroeder, Maureen Schroeder, Jeanette Ricke and her husband Clarence all of Remsen, and Louise Beck of Sacramento, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Marjorie; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bill (Marge) Schroeder; one granddaughter, Sharon Schroeder; two great-grandchildren, Jared and Robert Schroeder; one sister, Loretta and her husband, Anthony Harpenau; one half-brother, Joe and his wife Rose Niehus; three half-sisters and their husbands, Anna and Theodore Bunkers, Kate and Dominic Loutsch, Clara and Jack Loutsch; five brothers-in-law, Ray and his wife Virginia Schroeder, Elmer and his wife Hildegarde Schroeder, Dominic Schroeder, Vernon Schroeder and LeRoy Schroeder; and one sister-in-law, Helen and her husband Alfred Keffeler.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Catholic Church in remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating and the Rev. Eugene Murray concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Casketbearers will be Marge Hansen, Keith Gengler, Matt Homan, Adam, Rick and Dan Schroeder.
