TRUMAN B. BYRNE

Truman B. Byrne, longtime LeMars resident and originator of the Byrne Motor Express passed away at Sacred Heart hospital at 7;45 a.m. December 14, 1959.

Mr. Byrne was born November 21, 1886, at Akron. He had been sick for two months and had resided previously at 37 1st Avenue NW, in LeMars.

Mr. Byrne came to LeMars in 1910, where he ran a dray line. He later farmed for 5 years and then moved back to LeMars where he began the LeMars Retailers Truck Line from Sioux City to LeMars which he operated for 13 years. He then went to the local transfer line and became known as Byrne Motor Express which is presently operated by Harley Byrne. His parents were Maude Tripp and George Byrne.

He was united in marriage with Alice Tucker on August 25, 1909, at Sioux City. She preceded him in death this year. The couple had observed their golden wedding anniversary this summer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic church with Msgr. J.D. Fisch officiating. Burial will be in city cemetery under the direction of the Luken funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Myrna, and a son, Harley, and three grandchildren; a brother, Claire Byrne of Lake Andes, S.D., and a sister, Mrs. Hazel Ritts of Alameda, California. An infant son preceded him in death. Three great grandchildren also survive.

Friends may call at the Luken Funeral home from Tuesday noon until service time.
