Ralph Augustine, 74, of Remsen, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Ralph Augustine was born Feb. 9, 1934, at rural Geddes, S.D., the son of Joseph and Alvina (Schilmoeller) Augustine. Ralph lived at Geddes with his family until 1941 when they moved to near Remsen. In 1945 they moved to near Marcus, where he graduated from Holy Name High School at Marcus in 1951. He was then employed in the Remsen area.

On June 4, 1957, he married Cleon Cullinan at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rock Valley. They made their home in Remsen for one year, then moved to Cherokee and lived there for several years, then moved to Le Mars. They moved back to Remsen in 1992.

He worked for Wells' Dairy, Inc., from 1963 until retiring in 1996, starting as a route driver and ending as the manager of the milk plant.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen. Over the years he served on the board of directors of the golf courses at both Cherokee and Remsen. He was a member of the Blue Bunny Credit Union Board for nine years.

He loved to golf, play cards and his greatest treasure was his family.

Survivors include his wife, Cleon of Remsen; four sons and two daughters and their spouses, David and Nancy, Steve and Janet, Lori and Tom Ortmann all of Le Mars, Larry and Crystal of Urbandale, Tim and Lori, Michelle and Taage Foreman all of Le Mars; 20 grandchildren, Chris and Erin Augustine, Corey, Eric, Brent and Jared Augustine, Jennifer Brewer, Beau, Heather, Heidi and Cody Ortmann, Jordan, Logan and Alex Augustine, Deyton, Riley and Siarah Augustine, Cassie Kleihauer, Harley and Raine Foreman; one stepgrandson, Jamey Nelson; two great-grandchildren, Micah Augustine and Landon Ortmann; one great-stepgranddaughter, Kia Nelson; seven brothers, Msgr. Roger Augustine, Richard and his wife Nancy, Daniel and his wife Mary, Mike and his wife Janet all of Sioux City, Bill and his wife Jo of Estherville, Thomas and his wife Sandy, and Wayne and his wife Kathy, all of Remsen; two sisters and their husbands, Clarice and Dale Mousel, Delores and Pete Konz all of Alton; one sister-in-law, Kay Augustine of Remsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alvina and Lois both in infancy; one brother, Gerald Augustine; one sister-in-law, Roberta Augustine.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen with Msgr. Roger Augustine presiding, with various priests of the diocese concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today (Friday). There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Casket bearers will be Corey, Eric, Brent, Chris and Jordan Augustine, Beau Ortmann.

Honorary bearers will be Erin Augustine, Jared Augustine, Jennifer Brewer, Heather, Heidi and Cody Ortmann, Logan and Alex Augustine, Jamey Nelson, Deyton, Riley and Siarah Augustine, Cassie Kleihauer, Harley and Raine Foreman.
