Mary Rita Walsh of Le Mars died at the age of 81 on Thursday Nov. 27, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.

The former Mary Rita Sieverding was born July 10, 1927 in Le Mars, the daughter of Wilbur and Esther (Schnepf) Sieverding. She grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School. Mary Rita married Robert J. Walsh on April 7, 1947, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple made their home in Le Mars and owned and operated Sieverding-Walsh Hardware. Following their retirement, they enjoyed traveling in their RV. Her husband Robert died Feb. 15, 1998. Mary Rita continued to live in Le Mars and had resided at Brentwood Good Samaritan Village of Le Mars the last three and a half years.

Mary Rita was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include four children: Vicky Walsh of Minneapolis, Minn., Barbara Weatherly and her husband Tim of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Joi Walsh of Vista, Calif., and Mike Walsh of Melrose, Fla.; seven grandchildren: Sean Sackett of Dublin, Ohio, Breanne (Brian) Schadt of Davenport, Danika Weatherly of Marion, Ill., Heather Walsh of Boulder, Colo., Tessa (Drew) Miner of Fayetteville, Ark., Crystal Walsh of Le Mars and Robbie Walsh of Le Mars; two great-grandchildren: Malakei Weatherly of Marion, Ill., and Gavin Walsh of Le Mars; a sister DiAnn Stevens of Cedar Rapids; three brothers: Harry Sieverding and his wife Annette of Madisonville, La., Tom Sieverding of Phoenix, Ariz., and Earl Sieverding of Fort McCoy, Fla.; a sister-in-law Mary Sieverding of Iowa City, and a brother-in-law Charles Walsh and his wife Dolores of Escondido, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert J. Walsh; and three brothers: Bud, Roger and Wilbur Sieverding.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars where there will be a Catholic Daughters rosary at 4 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m.
