Veronica "Toni" Ruden, 97, of Remsen, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Veronica "Toni" Ruden was born May 11, 1911, at rural Remsen, the daughter of James and Mary (Bohnenkamp) Ludwig. Toni was raised on a farm south of Remsen. She graduated from St. Mary Catholic School after completing the eighth grade and then helped work on the farm. On April 17, 1934, she married John Ruden at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen. They made their home on a farm south of Remsen. In 1974 they retired and moved into town. Toni then went to work at The Abbey of Le Mars for three years, Floyd Valley Hospital for 11 years, and then thought she was ready to retire and did so for a year. She then went to work at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars for 11 years. John died May 29, 1980.

On Aug. 5, 1981, she married Sylvester Ruden at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen, and they made their home in Remsen. Sylvester died Feb. 2, 2001.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church at Remsen and Christian Women's Guild. During Toni's retirement she truly enjoyed her many trips to Branson, Mo., with her family, especially enjoying Daniel O'Donnell and shopping. She enjoyed all her many wonderful birthday gatherings, which were all a very special celebration for her.

She loved visiting friends and relatives at the nursing home. She also enjoyed visiting with her family, as she always enjoyed company. She enjoyed helping Cami at the Drive Inn and has missed her dearly since her death in June 2007. Toni will be so happy to be reunited with her and the rest of her family.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Reese of Newton, and Carol Weber of Remsen; four sons, Larry and his wife Mary Ellen, David and his wife Ann, Mike and his special friend Jeannie Haverkamp, all of Remsen, Mark and his wife Susie of Le Mars; one daughter-in-law, Ann Ruden of Des Moines; 33 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Dale; one son-in-law, Harold Reese; one granddaughter, Cami (Weber) Hoffman; one brother, Ray Ludwig; and six sisters, Frances Blum, Cyrilla Henrich, Dorothy Dubitsky, Myra Edwards, Armella Galles and Lenora Becker.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a rosary at 3 p.m. by Christian Women's Guild and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Scott and John Ruden, Rick Weber, Kurt, Johnathon and Corey Ruden.
